Arriving late in Paris: late check-in and last-minute connections

The reception area of a Korner hotel, lit up at night

A delayed flight, an evening train, a closed reception: arriving late in Paris takes some planning. Here’s what to check before booking and how to get home once the last metro has left.

A delayed flight, an evening TGV, a dinner that drags on: arriving at your hotel after midnight is nothing out of the ordinary. What’s more unusual is finding someone there to greet you. Many Parisian hotels close their front desk in the evening and leave late arrivals to fend for themselves with a keypad and a phone number that goes unanswered. Here’s how to avoid that.

One thing to check when making a reservation

Platforms often list a check-in time range such as “3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.” This information does not indicate whether anyone will be there after 10:00 p.m.—it simply states when the hotel prefers you to arrive. The real question to ask is different: Is the front desk staffed 24 hours a day, or do you need to notify them in advance if you’ll be arriving late?

If you're unsure, send a message to the hotel with your estimated arrival time. A well-organized hotel will respond within a few minutes, and that response is worth more than all the online reviews combined.

At Korner: Come Any Time

Our hotels are designed so that your arrival time isn't an issue. Most of our locations have a 24/7 front desk, and our fully digital guest experience lets you check in without waiting in line or dealing with paperwork: you just pick up your room key and go to sleep.

It makes a real difference when you arrive at 1:00 a.m. with a suitcase. If you’re arriving very late, please let us know when you make your reservation: it won’t change how we welcome you, but it will allow us to be ready for you.

The last subway, and then...

The Paris Metro runs until about 1:15 a.m. on weekdays, and until about 2:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and the days before holidays. After that time, the Noctilien night bus network takes over: it’s slower, but it serves all of Paris and the main train stations.

If you arrive late, keep in mind that train service from the airports stops running before the metro does. There is a flat-rate taxi fare from Roissy and Orly to Paris—check the current rate before getting in; it’s posted on the official fare meters.

Neighborhoods where coming home late is no big deal

Not all neighborhoods are created equal at 1:00 a.m. Neighborhoods that are well-served by multiple transit lines and remain lively in the evening are safer and more convenient.

Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin is undoubtedly the best choice for this: Place de la République is served by five metro lines, and the neighborhood stays lively late into the night. Our hotel near the Marais offers the same advantage, right in the heart of the metro network, as does our hotel on the Grands Boulevards, which is convenient when returning from a theater performance or a concert.

If you're arriving on the evening train, staying near your station makes everything easier: our article on hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est details the options on the north side, and our article on hotels near Gare Montparnasse covers arrivals from the west and southwest.

What You Need to Prepare on Your End

Three simple habits can save you a lot of time. Make sure you have your reservation number handy even when you’re offline—the airport’s Wi-Fi doesn’t always work, and cell service can be spotty on certain streets. Write down the hotel’s exact address rather than just its name; ride-hailing apps sometimes confuse hotels with similar names. And if you’re traveling with others, make sure all the rooms are at the same location.

On that last point: if you’re booking more than three rooms, our dedicated team will handle it and put together a customized proposal, which helps you avoid any unpleasant surprises at midnight. Everything is explained in our article on booking multiple rooms in Paris.

And the next morning

A late arrival often takes its toll the next day. Be sure to check the breakfast hours, and keep in mind that our hotels offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out—which is helpful when you arrive exhausted and leave right away.
