Hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est: Where to Leave Your Luggage

Staying right across from the station is expensive and rarely pleasant. Here are our tips for choosing the right hotel near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est.
Arriving in Paris at Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est puts you right in the heart of the city—but not necessarily in the neighborhood where you want to stay. Hotels located directly across from the stations rely on passing traffic, and they charge accordingly. A few metro stops further on, you'll find better, cheaper options on streets where you'll actually want to spend time in the evening.
The right distance: ten minutes, not zero
The rule we give our guests is simple: look for a hotel one stop or a fifteen-minute walk from your station, not right outside it. That way, you get the convenience of arriving with your luggage, and you trade a transit zone for a neighborhood with real life.
The immediate surroundings of Gare du Nord are a prime example: very well connected, but noisy and not very pleasant after dark.
Our nearest address: the 10th arrondissement, near République
Our hotel near Canal Saint-Martin, on Boulevard de Magenta, is the best place to stay for both stations. Metro Line 5 runs directly from République to Gare de l'Est and then to Gare du Nord, with no transfers: the trip takes just a few minutes. On foot, Gare de l'Est is about a fifteen-minute walk up the boulevard.
The neighborhood's biggest advantage: you're just a stone's throw from Canal Saint-Martin and Place de la République, surrounded by restaurants and bars that stay open late, in an area that's much livelier than the area around the station. Its 28 rooms and 24-hour front desk also make it a great base for guests arriving late on the Eurostar.
For an early-morning train: stay on the line
If you're leaving early, what matters isn't the distance as the crow flies, but the number of transfers. Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est are both served by lines 4 and 5, and Gare de l'Est is also served by line 7.
That's what makes the Hôtel Léman Opéra, on Rue de Trévise, a smart choice for travelers departing from Gare de l'Est: Cadet Station, on Line 7, is just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. You'll stay in the heart of the 9th arrondissement, between the Grands Boulevards and the Opéra Garnier, and can reach the station without having to change trains.
If you're here to visit the northern part of Paris
Many travelers arriving at Gare du Nord actually spend their time in Montmartre. In that case, you might as well stay there: our hotel near the Sacré-Cœur, on Rue Aristide Bruant, is located at the foot of the Butte, two streets from Abbesses. Gare du Nord is easy to reach, and you’ll be staying in a neighborhood with a village-like atmosphere rather than a station district.
When to Book
Hotel demand around the stations in northern Paris peaks three times a year: during school vacation departures and returns, major city events, and trade show periods. Outside of these periods, booking one to two weeks in advance is usually sufficient. For a stay during a trade show or a long weekend, however, you should book two to three months in advance.
Either way, booking directly on our website is up to 15% cheaper than on booking platforms—a difference that quickly adds up over several nights.
Traveling as a group?
For groups and teams, booking room by room quickly becomes unmanageable. For bookings of three or more rooms, our dedicated team takes over and puts together a customized proposal, which may include accommodations at several of our nearby hotels: visit our group booking page.
