Hotels Near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est: Where to Leave Your Luggage

Staying right across from the station is expensive and rarely pleasant. Here are our tips for choosing the right hotel near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est.
Arriving in Paris at Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est means stepping right into the heart of the city—but not necessarily into the neighborhood where you’d like to stay. The hotels located right across from the stations thrive on the constant flow of travelers—and they charge accordingly. A few metro stops further on, you’ll find better options at lower prices, on streets where you’ll want to linger in the evening.
The Right Distance: Ten Minutes, Not Zero
The rule we give our guests is simple: look for a hotel one stop or a fifteen-minute walk from your station—not right at the exit. Keep your arrival hassle-free with your luggage and swap a transit area for a lively neighborhood.
This is especially true of the immediate vicinity of the Gare du Nord: it’s very well connected, but noisy and not very pleasant after sunset.
Our nearest location: the 10th arrondissement, near République
Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin, on Boulevard de Magenta, is the best base for both stations. Line 5 connects République directly to Gare de l'Est and then to Gare du Nord without any transfers—the trip takes just a few minutes. On foot, Gare de l'Est is about a fifteen-minute walk up the boulevard.
The neighborhood’s main advantage: you’re just a stone’s throw from the Canal Saint-Martin and Place de la République, surrounded by restaurants and bars that stay open late, in an area that’s much livelier than the areas around the train stations. Its 28 rooms and 24-hour front desk also make it an excellent base for those arriving late in the evening on the Eurostar.
For an early morning train: stay on the line
If you're leaving early in the morning, what matters isn't the distance as the crow flies but the number of transfers. Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est are both served by lines 4 and 5; Gare de l'Est is also served by line 7.
That's whythe Hôtel Léman Opéra, on Rue de Trévise, is a great choice if you're departing from Gare de l'Est: Cadet Station, on Line 7, is just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Stay in the heart of the 9th arrondissement, between the Grands Boulevards and the Opéra Garnier, and reach the station without having to transfer.
If you're coming from the north of Paris
Many travelers arriving at Gare du Nord actually spend their stay in Montmartre. In that case, you might as well stay there: our hotel near the Sacré-Cœur, on Rue Aristide Bruant, puts you right at the foot of the Butte, just two streets away from Abbesses. Gare du Nord is easily accessible, and you’ll be staying in a neighborhood with a small-town feel, rather than in a station area.
When to Book
Hotel demand around the train stations in northern Paris peaks three times a year: at the start and end of school breaks, during major city events, and during trade show seasons. Outside of these periods, booking one or two weeks in advance is generally sufficient. For a stay during a trade show or a long weekend, plan to book two or three months in advance.
In any case, booking directly on our website costs up to 15% less than booking through third-party platforms—a difference that really adds up quickly when you stay for multiple nights.
Are you traveling in a group?
For groups and teams, booking room by room quickly becomes unmanageable. For bookings of three or more rooms, our dedicated service will handle it and prepare a customized proposal, which may be spread across several of our nearby hotels: visit our group reservations page.
