Arriving late in Paris: late check-in and last-minute connections

The Korner Hotel reception area is lit up at night

A delayed flight, an evening train, a closed front desk: arriving late in Paris requires a little planning. What to check before booking and how to get to your hotel after the last metro has left.

A delayed flight, an evening TGV, a dinner that runs late: arriving at your hotel after midnight is nothing out of the ordinary. What’s rarer is finding someone there to welcome you. Many Parisian hotels close their front desk in the evening and leave late arrivals to fend for themselves with a key box and a phone number that no one answers. Here’s how to avoid that.

Just check one thing when booking

Booking platforms often display a check-in window such as “3 PM – 10 PM.” This does not tell you whether anyone will be there after 10 PM—it only tells you when the hotel would prefer you to arrive. The real question to ask is a different one: Is the front desk staffed 24/7, or do you need to give advance notice of a late arrival?

If you're unsure, send the hotel a message with your estimated arrival time. A well-organized hotel will reply within minutes, and that reply is worth more than any online review.

At Korner: Come by anytime

Our hotels are designed so that your arrival time is never an issue. Most of our hotels have a 24-hour front desk, and our fully digital guest experience lets you check in without waiting in line or filling out paperwork: you just pick up your room key and go straight to bed.

It really makes a difference when you show up at 1:00 a.m. with a suitcase. If you're arriving very late, please let us know when you book: it won't change how we welcome you, but it lets us know to expect you.

The last subway, and then

The Paris metro runs until about 1:15 a.m. on weekdays, and until about 2:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and the night before public holidays. After that, the Noctilien night bus network takes over: it’s slower, but it serves all of Paris and the main train stations.

If your flight arrives late, keep in mind that rail service from the airports stops before the metro does. A flat-rate taxi fare applies from Roissy and Orly to Paris—check the current rate before getting in; it is posted at the official taxi stands.

Neighborhoods where it's easy to get home late

Not every area is the same at 1 a.m. Neighborhoods served by several transit lines that are still bustling in the evening are safer and more convenient.

Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin is probably the best choice for this: Place de la République is served by five metro lines, and the neighborhood stays lively late into the night. Our hotel near the Marais enjoys the same advantage, right in the heart of the metro network, as does our hotel on the Grands Boulevards, which is convenient when returning from a theater or a concert.

If you're arriving on an evening train, staying near your station makes everything easier: our article on hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est details the options in the north, and our article on hotels near Gare Montparnasse covers arrivals from the west and southwest.

What You Need to Prepare

Three simple habits can save you a considerable amount of time. Keep your booking number handy even when you're offline—airport Wi-Fi doesn't always work, and cell service can be poor in some areas. Write down the hotel's exact address rather than its name, since ride-hailing apps sometimes confuse hotels with similar names. And if you're traveling as a group, make sure all the rooms are in the same place.

On that last point: if you're booking more than three rooms, our dedicated service will handle it and put together a single proposal, which helps avoid unpleasant surprises at midnight. Everything is explained in our article on booking multiple rooms in Paris.

And the next morning

A late arrival often takes its toll the next day. Remember to check breakfast hours, and note that our hotels offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out—which is useful when you arrive exhausted and leave again soon after.
