Arriving Late in Paris: Late Check-In and Last-Minute Connections

A delayed flight, an evening train, a closed front desk: arriving late in Paris takes some planning. What to check before booking and how to get to your hotel after the last metro.
A delayed flight, an evening TGV, a dinner that runs late: arriving at the hotel after midnight is nothing out of the ordinary. What’s rarer is finding someone there to greet you. Many Parisian hotels close their front desk in the evening and leave late arrivals to fend for themselves with a combination lock and a phone number that goes unanswered. Here’s how to avoid that.
Check just one thing when making a reservation
Booking platforms often list a check-in time range such as “3:00 PM – 10:00 PM.” This information doesn’t indicate whether anyone will be there after 10:00 PM—it simply tells you when the hotel prefers you to arrive. The real question to ask is this: Is the front desk open 24 hours a day, or do you need to notify them in case of a late arrival?
If in doubt, send a message to the hotel with your expected arrival time. A well-organized hotel will respond within minutes, and that response is worth more than all the online reviews combined.
Da Korner: Come by anytime
Our hotels are designed so that your arrival time is never an issue. Most of our locations have a 24/7 front desk, and our fully digital guest experience lets you check in without waiting in line or filling out paperwork—just check into your room and go to sleep.
It makes a real difference when you arrive at 1:00 a.m. with a suitcase. If you’re arriving very late, please let us know when you make your reservation: it won’t change how we welcome you, but it will allow us to be ready for you.
The last subway, and then
The Paris Metro runs until about 1:15 a.m. on weekdays, and until about 2:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and the evenings before holidays. After that time, the Noctilien night bus network takes over: it’s slower, but it serves all of Paris and the main stations.
If you arrive late, keep in mind that the train service from the airports stops running before the metro does. There is a fixed taxi fare from Roissy and Orly to Paris—check the current rate before getting in; it’s posted at the official taxi stands.
Neighborhoods where coming home late is no big deal
At 1:00 a.m., not all neighborhoods are the same. Those with good public transportation access and that are still bustling in the evening are safer and more convenient.
Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin is probably the best located: Place de la République is served by five metro lines, and the neighborhood stays lively late into the night. Our hotel near the Marais enjoys the same advantage in the heart of the metro network, as does our hotel on the Grands Boulevards, which is convenient for returning from a theater or concert.
If you're arriving on the evening train, staying near your station makes everything easier: our article on hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est covers options to the north, and our article on hotels near Montparnasse Station covers arrivals from the west and southwest.
What You Need to Do
Three tips can save you a lot of time. Keep your reservation number handy even when you’re offline—the airport’s Wi-Fi doesn’t always work, and in some areas, the signal is weak. Write down the hotel’s exact address rather than just its name: ride-hailing apps sometimes confuse properties with similar names. And if you’re traveling in a group, make sure all the rooms are in the same place.
Regarding this last point: for bookings of more than three rooms, our dedicated service handles it, preparing a single quote and helping you avoid unpleasant surprises at midnight. Everything is explained in our article on booking multiple rooms in Paris.
And the next morning
If you arrive late, you'll often be charged the following day. Remember to check the breakfast hours, and keep in mind that our hotels offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out—which is handy when you arrive exhausted and leave right away.
