Arriving Late in Paris: Late Check-In and Last-Minute Connections

Delayed flight, overnight train, front desk closed: arriving late in Paris takes some planning. What to check before booking and how to get to your hotel after the last metro has left.
A delayed flight, a late-night TGV, a dinner that runs late: arriving at the hotel after midnight is nothing out of the ordinary. What is unusual, however, is finding someone there to greet you. Many Parisian hotels close their front desk at night and leave late-arriving guests to fend for themselves with a code-locked box and a phone number that goes unanswered. Here’s how you can avoid that.
Check just one thing when booking
Platforms typically display a check-in time range such as “3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.” This information does not indicate whether anyone will be available after 10:00 p.m.—it simply states the hotel’s preferred arrival time. The real question is this: Is the front desk staffed 24 hours a day, or do you need to notify them in case of a late arrival?
If you're unsure, send a message to the hotel with your estimated time of arrival. A well-organized hotel will respond within a few minutes, and that response is worth more than all the online reviews combined.
At Korner: Come anytime
Our hotels are designed so that your arrival time isn't an issue. Most of our properties have a 24/7 front desk, and our fully digital guest experience lets you check in without waiting in line or filling out paperwork: just pick up your room key and head to bed.
It really makes a difference when you arrive at 1:00 a.m. with a suitcase. If you’ll be arriving very late, please let us know when you make your reservation: it won’t change anything about your check-in, but it will allow us to wait for you.
The last subway, and then
The Paris Metro runs until about 1:15 a.m. on weekdays, and until about 2:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and the evenings before holidays. After that time, the Noctilien night bus network takes over: it’s slower, but it covers all of Paris and the main stations.
If you arrive late, keep in mind that train service from the airports ends earlier than the metro. There is a flat-rate taxi fare from Roissy and Orly to Paris—check the current rate before getting in; it is posted at the official taxi stands.
Neighborhoods where it's still easy to come home late
At 1:00 a.m., not all neighborhoods are the same. Those that are well-connected by several transit lines and remain lively at night are safer and more convenient.
Our hotel near the Canal Saint-Martin is undoubtedly the best-located option for this: Place de la République is served by five metro lines, and the neighborhood stays lively late into the night. Our hotel near the Marais enjoys the same advantage in the heart of the metro network, as does our hotel on the Grands Boulevards, which is convenient when returning from a theater or concert.
If you're arriving on the night train, staying near your station makes everything easier: our article on hotels near Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est details the options in the north, and our article on hotels near Montparnasse Station covers arrivals from the west and southwest.
What you need to do on your end
A few quick tips will save you a lot of time. Keep your reservation number handy even when you’re offline—the airport’s Wi-Fi doesn’t always work, and cell service can be spotty on some streets. Write down the hotel’s exact address instead of just its name: ride-hailing apps sometimes confuse establishments with similar names. And if you’re traveling in a group, make sure all the rooms are at the same location.
Regarding this last point: for bookings of three or more rooms, our dedicated service takes care of everything and puts together a customized proposal, which helps avoid unpleasant surprises in the middle of the night. Everything is explained in our article on booking multiple rooms in Paris.
The next morning
A late arrival is usually charged the following day. Be sure to check the breakfast hours, and keep in mind that our hotels offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out—which is helpful when you arrive exhausted and have to leave right away.
