Hotels Near Gare de Lyon and Gare d'Austerlitz: Where to Stay

Facade of the Gare de Lyon in Paris

Early morning train or evening arrival? Here are our recommendations for places to stay near Gare d'Austerlitz and Gare de Lyon—without having to stay right in front of the station.

From Gare d'Austerlitz, the Korner Saint-Marcel is about a ten-minute walk away, or one stop on Line 5. From Gare de Lyon, the Korner Châtelet is just one stop away on Line 14 or the RER A, which is often faster than staying right next to the station. In both cases, you’ll be staying in a pleasant neighborhood rather than right in front of the station, where hotels rely on foot traffic and charge accordingly.

Two nearby stations, two different uses

Gare de Lyon is the TGV station for Lyon, the Alps, Provence, the French Riviera, and Switzerland. It is served by Metro lines 1 and 14 and by RER lines A and D.

Austerlitz Station serves Intercités trains bound for central and southwestern France, as well as the main overnight trains. It is served by Metro lines 5 and 10 and the RER C.

The two stations are located across from each other on opposite banks of the Seine: allow about ten minutes on foot to walk from one to the other.

For the Austerlitz Station: the Saint-Marcel Corner

Our hotel near the Jardin des Plantes, on Boulevard Saint-Marcel in the 13th arrondissement, is our closest location to the Gare d'Austerlitz. It's about a 10-minute walk along Boulevard de l'Hôpital, or just one stop from Saint-Marcel on Line 5.

In the evening, the neighborhood is quiet, just a stone's throw from the Jardin des Plantes and Rue Mouffetard. The hotel also offers family rooms for two adults and two children, which are convenient for those traveling by train. To explore the area, read about things to do around the Korner Saint-Marcel.

For Gare de Lyon: two options

Stay as close as possible on foot

From Dal Korner Saint-Marcel, Gare de Lyon is about a 20-minute walk across the Seine. By metro, take Line 5 to Bastille, then Line 1 for one stop.

Staying downtown, just one stop away

Our hotel near the Marais, on Avenue Victoria, is just a short walk from the Châtelet station. Line 14 and the RER A take you to Gare de Lyon in just one stop, in a matter of minutes. You’ll stay in the heart of Paris, between Notre-Dame, the Marais, and the Louvre, and you’ll reach your TGV without any stress.

Line 14 also connects Châtelet and Gare de Lyon directly to Orly Airport: a convenient option for a trip that combines air and rail travel. Our guide to getting to your hotel from CDG or Orly describes all the routes.

For an early-morning train

The metro reopens around 5:30 a.m. For a very early morning departure, choose a hotel within walking distance of the station, or book a taxi. The night before, check the platform number on the SNCF app and make sure your tickets are accessible offline.

If your train leaves in the afternoon, make the most of your last morning in Paris: our hotels will store your luggage free of charge after check-out, which is at 12:00 p.m.

For an evening arrival

A late-night TGV or a delayed train isn't a problem: most of our hotels have a 24-hour front desk, and our digital guest experience allows you to check in without waiting. Simply indicate your expected arrival time when you make your reservation.

When to Book

Around the Gare de Lyon and the Gare d'Austerlitz, hotel demand rises during school vacation periods—in winter for trips to the Alps and in summer for trips to the south—as well as during long weekends. Outside of these periods, booking one or two weeks in advance is generally sufficient; for a vacation, however, you should plan to book two or three months in advance.

When you book directly on our website, you'll pay up to 15% less than on booking platforms. To understand the difference, read our article, "Booking Directly vs. Through a Platform."
